Take 52 Catch Up

Week 2's theme was Local. The weather was not cooperating for most of the week, in that it was dreary, cloudy, and rainy...again. But on the first clear day, which was Saturday, I hopped in the car with my son and let him drive to work while I took photos.

This was once a 'local' grocery store but is obviously not anymore. :)
I liked the image but not enough to submit it for the challenge.

Here we have the children's dept at our 'local' library all decorated for Valentine's Day. Isn't it pretty? I was going to use this image until I realized that the bulletins boards promoting "love books" and "sweet reads" are sitting directly above the computer stations. Somehow that just didn't make sense to me. I would like to have seen some comfy couches, chairs, or bean bags and lots and lots of books, but then it wouldn't look so neat and clean, would it?! And I'm sure my son has a little bit to do with it being so orderly and precise looking. He works in that department.

And now for the winning submission photo...

I just love Winnie the Pooh! When my children were little we watched lots of movies and read tons of books about Pooh. I even learned the song so I could sing it to them!

Well, look who I found reading one of his favorite stories at our 'LOCAL' library. None other than Winnie the Pooh! :)

I took many photos of Pooh Bear positioned in different areas, with different lighting, but ultimately I liked this one best, even with the "harsh" lighting (as one commenter in Take52 pointed out).

What are some 'local' places you like to visit?

: : :

Week 3's theme is Entrance and I'll be posting those photos on Monday.

  1. I like the first one with the grocer sign ~*of the times*~ really speaks to me of a former time and the meeting place. The trees are young, and now fenced off as time goes on. I really like it ~ wait for a theme for it :D Kathleen

  2. Hi Anne! Winnie the Pooh reminds me so much of my Mom! She just loved that series. We always had a collection of Pooh books that she would read to us. Kanga and Roo we favorites.
The lighting on the Pooh doll and book is really dramatic, I can see why you liked it. How fun to snoop around the library for fun shots!
Locally, I'd like to go to our arboretum. Even though it's cold and there is snow, it's always calming to drive or walk around the winding tree paths. Just thinking about it makes me relax!
    Happy Weekend!

    1. I wish we had an arboretum around here. I went to one in Raleigh a couple of years ago and had a heyday taking photos. :)

  3. I really like the photo of the dilapidated old store. The library photo is a bit ironic isn't it? :) Mr. Pooh is great. So colourful! A favourite local spot for me, but mostly when it's not winter, is the nearby lake and causeway. I get some great sunset photos there along with boats and people fishing and herons. I haven't been down since the fall.

My favorite local place to visit is the swimming pool. However it will be a long time until it opens this summer.

  7. Love the old store, love Pooh, and let's just figure that the bulletin boards will inspire to get off those computers and pick up a real book!
