Big Contender

It's a literal fight all summer!
Swatting at them, running from them...

While this fella might not seem daunting, in actuality he is about
1 1/2 inches long! And he bites!!!

Hence the graininess of the photo
because I zoomed from far away to get the shot.

We have to contend with these buggers all summer.

We call them honkin' horse flies out here in the country J

In case you've never heard of one, you can read more about them here:

Do you have any pesky summer bugs besides mosquitos?
Which I can see absolutely no use for, by the way.

  1. Fabulous macro!

Yes, the gnats and spiders are extremely annoying to us this year!

Thanks for visiting and commenting on my RBH post.

  2. Oh my goodness Anne! What a shot! We have those honkers (didn't know they were called that until now) down in the country. They especially like dark hair and you will find us diving head first under the water as they attack us on the river. Our lab Cocoa really had a run for his money when it came to those guys. When they are around, it makes me glad I'm not a horse! Your posts are always so fun!
    Hugs Anne,

  3. Great shot! I'm wanting to run just looking at it, ha!

  4. Yes ~ those chiggers!!! They wait on the edge of the lawn and say, "Wait, wait... here she comes!" Kathleen

  5. I can appreciate the disdain for these creatures, my father used to drag us North to HF country every summer and we'd always nurse a bite or two or've actually showed his beautiful side...super photo.

  6. Anne, your photo is stupendous! :) We have horse flies too, and yes, they are awful! Have a great weekend. Hugs to you!

  7. I remember contending with those as a we've moved away from their domain. Great shot! My Rurality:

  8. Yikes! Wow you got a great shot of this "horse-fly" . It looks pretty creepy.

  9. Great shot of an ugly creature. Their bites do hurt!

I am so delighted that you've taken time to come by and comment. Blessings for a joy-filled day!
